Colorado Springs Rodent Questions
Here's what people around Colorado Springs ask us most. If yours isn't here, call. The guides go further on deer mice, pack rats and lawn damage.
Questions and Answers
Are you the exterminator?
No. We're a referral line. A licensed local company does the work and sets the price.
Why do mice show up every October?
The first freeze usually hits around the start of October, and mice that spent summer outside look for warm buildings. Sealing the gaps before then is the best fix. See the first freeze guide.
How small a gap can a mouse use?
Per the CDC, a dime-sized opening is enough for some.
Do deer mice carry hantavirus?
Some do. People catch it by breathing in particles from deer mouse droppings, urine or saliva. Clean up without sweeping or vacuuming, and wet everything with disinfectant first.
What's a pack rat?
A woodrat. Colorado has six species, according to CPW. They build stick nests and collect objects, especially shiny ones. See pack rat removal.
What's tearing up my lawn?
Runways and open holes are voles. Plugged dirt mounds are pocket gophers. See voles vs. pocket gophers.
Is bait safe with kids, dogs and horses around?
Bait should only go in locked, tamper-resistant stations placed where kids and animals can't reach them. Tell the provider about everyone on the property.
Do you cover Monument, Falcon and Fountain?
Yes, and the rest of El Paso County.
Can I get a price over the phone?
Not from us. The provider quotes after they've seen the property.
Is there a guarantee?
Not from us. If the provider offers a warranty, ask them what it covers.
