Rodent Control in Security-Widefield

Security-Widefield is two unincorporated communities, Security and Widefield, counted together as one census-designated place south of Colorado Springs. The Census Bureau first defined Security for the 1960 census, and Fontaine Blvd. splits the two. S.A. Wilson Elementary, built in 1959 to 1961, gives you a sense of when a lot of the neighborhood went up.

Homes that age have had sixty-plus years to settle, and they've usually been remodeled more than once. That's where mice find their way in.

Older houses, older gaps

Mid-century houses tend to leak at the foundation and sill plate, around old pipe and wire holes, at dryer vents and under garage doors. Lower levels and basements with the furnace and laundry are where mice like to settle in for winter. Mouse removal covers trapping, and entry sealing covers the gaps.

Yards, sheds and rats

Sheds, woodpiles, compost and backyard chickens all draw rodents. Norway rats dig burrows under sheds and along slabs. If you see burrow holes or raisin-sized droppings, see rat control. Keep feed in metal cans and clean up spilled seed.
