Rodent Control in Broadmoor and Cheyenne Cañon
The Broadmoor area got its start in 1891, when the Broadmoor Land Company laid out a suburb southwest of the city. Today the Gazette describes it as homes and townhomes against a mountain backdrop, many in gated communities, with hilly, wooded areas running up toward the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Skyway and Broadmoor Bluffs climb the slopes nearby.
Next door, Cheyenne Cañon has many homes on heavily wooded creekside lots, and Ivywild, with a history going back to 1888, has smaller homes along Cheyenne Creek. Rodent calls from this part of town follow the trees, the rock and the water.
Slopes, rock and pack rats
Woodrats like rough, rocky ground, and the slopes below Cheyenne Mountain have plenty. Homes up against the hillside see pack rats in garages, sheds and crawl spaces, and sometimes in cars parked outside. A nest of sticks with odd objects mixed in is the giveaway. See pack rat removal.
Creek lots and older homes
Wooded creekside lots give mice cover and water close to the house. Older homes in Ivywild and the established streets around the Broadmoor have had decades to settle, which opens gaps along the foundation and where old utility lines come in. Mouse removal and entry sealing cover the usual fix.
- Gaps at old foundations and sill plates
- Crawl space vents near the creek
- Woodpiles and brush along the back of the lot
- Detached garages and garden sheds
Larger homes
Big houses have more places to check: multiple garages, mechanical rooms, attics over additions and guest quarters. The provider may need more than one visit to find every gap. If there's a smell or droppings in the attic, see attic and nest cleanup.
