Rodent Control in Fountain
Fountain is about 10 miles south of downtown Colorado Springs, just east of Fort Carson, and it's named for Fountain Creek, which flows south through town. At around 5,558 feet it sits lower than most of the region. It's also home to Pikes Peak International Raceway.
With Fort Carson next door, a lot of people here are new to the house they live in. A house that sat empty between owners or tenants is an easy place for mice to settle.
Moving in, moving out
Empty houses go quiet, and mice notice. If you've just moved in and you're finding droppings in the kitchen drawers or the garage, the house may have had guests while it was empty. Clean up carefully: don't sweep or vacuum, wet the droppings with disinfectant, and wear gloves. Then get the gaps closed. Mouse removal and entry sealing explain both.
Renters should tell the landlord or property manager first. Many leases put rodent work on the owner.
Fountain Creek and open land
Homes near the creek and along open land see field mice in the fall and voles in the lawn. Rats show up around compost, chicken coops and trash. See vole and gopher control and rat control.
- Keep trash in cans with tight lids
- Move compost and woodpiles away from the house
- Check the garage door seal
- Pick up spilled bird seed
